New York & Lola

I'll be in New York this weekend with my best friend, Miss Alie Ward. I wish I could tell you the reason we're going, and all the amazing and potentially life-changing things we'll be doing while there, but I'm afraid to jinx it. I'll just say, for the time-being, that this trip was made possible by the McNuggetini, which is pretty mind blowing. Who'd have thunk that a meat-garnished drink, invented over White Russians and popcorn at a dive bar, would lead to such potentially great heights??? Not I.

Friday night there will be a Tumblr Meet-Up party thrown in our honor, at which the aforementioned life-changing McNuggetini being served. If you'll be in New York and want the party info, I'd be happy to provide you with it after you prove your sanity and pinky swear that you're not a anti-blogger sociopath. Promise? Swear?? Okay, email me for the party info here: georgiaisyourfriend@gmail.com

I've only been to New York twice before, and both those times with romantic traveling companions. I'm excited to go this time with my partner in crime and hopefully have a fabulously nefarious time. Also a gluttonous time. I'm determined to consume as much New York coffee, as many bagels and slices of pizza, and as much strangely flavored rice pudding as possible. What's your favorite thing to eat in New York? I need suggestions so that I can achieve my goal of weighing at least five extra pounds by the time I step onto the returning flight Sunday night.
...........................

This week has been crazy due to all the trip planning, so I haven't had a chance to update regarding the new kitty. Things didn't go as planned when I met to meet my potential superfluous-toed kitty. She just didn't give me that "that's MY cat!" feeling for some reason. But as I was leaving, sadly empty handed, I was told there was a Siamese mix kitten available if I'd like to meet her. Ummm, yes please!

Within minutes she was sitting on my lap, melting into my arms as I gave her my patented expert cat ear rub. "She's yours," my mom, who was perched on a chair watching, said with a glint in her eye. An hour later she was home with me.

Lola
So far Elvis likes her, and although they don't snuggle yet as I had hoped they would, they play together like they're old friends. He avoids me just a little, and doesn't sleep with me anymore which breaks my heart just a tad. He'll get over it, right?? Lola, on the other hand, is possibly the sweetest kitten (six months old) that I've ever met. I swear she just melts into your arms the moment you pick her up. She's playful but not destructive, silly and cute, with the most darling little mew you've ever heard.

Have a lovely weekend, friends...New York updates to follow!

What's my favourite thing to eat in New York? Anything that the boys at Dominick's on Arthur Ave. care to throw together for me. A little tricky for a neophyte to get to, perhaps, so I'll recommend a slice from Ray's, over by Cooper Union. It's even better after you've been drinking at McSorley's all afternoon, and there's a mighty hole in your belly that needs filling. And brekkie at the Jackson Hole at 91st and Mad can't be beat, all the more so because you can sit in the window and pretend to be Woody and Dianne Wiest in Hannah and Her Sisters, (but I won't say who has to be whom).

You enjoy yourself!

(So, soooooo jealous...)

Oh yeah, my favorite food in New York is a cannoli from this place called, uh...Rocco's, yeah. Google says the address is: 243 Bleecker Street, New York, NY. Right by Bleecker and 6th Ave. I love me the shit outta some cannoli.

OMG, I'm going to be in the same state as Georgia! Your party thing sounds awesome. Five hours away, though...I dunno. Anyway, I am so, so, so excited to find out what you guys are up to, you secretive little thing, you!

Oh, and your little patchwork kitty is the cutest. (Need. Kitty. NOW!)

I forgot to add that if you're willing to splurge a little (and you should), the Four Seasons Restaurant has a prix fixe deal for $59, in honour of its fiftieth annualversary. In terms of decadence-per-dollar, you're making out like a bandit. Highly, highly recommended -- best meal I've had since Le Train Bleu, also on some table d'hote deal. (And no, I'm not cheap, just value-conscious).

So, yeah. Four Seasons. Do it.

Best thing I've ever eaten in NYC to date: mac and cheese sping rolls with gouda dipping sauce! from Cafeteria. They were seriously next level.

I would go to Ippudo for some mind blowing ramen. Better than anything I've had in LA. Get the classic ramen. I used to go there once a week during the chilly weather. And though commonly overrated, either the Momofuku Noodle Bar or the Ssam Bar. You don't necessarily have to get noodles at the noodle bar (I wouldn't) but if they have this brussel sprout dish, wish bacon, atop kimchee puree, GET IT. Amazing. Menu changes seasonally so I can't offer much advice on what to get, but the servers really know their stuff. Some of my favorite restaurants in NYC. For Szechuan cuisine, which we don;t have too much of in LA, go to Grand Szechuan, the East Village St Marks location. Get the Gui Zhao spicy chicken and feel like you're ready to die and have gone to heaven. Also, garlic fried pea shoots, cucumber with scallion sauce, wonton with red chili oil, fried beef with cumin flavor. Trust me, you can't get this stuff out here. I miss that place so badly :( LA is better at Cantonese and other regions. For coffee, I'd go to Abraco. The owner is really friendly and the pastries and food are seasonal and homemade. The coffee is out of this world. The place is really tiny and charming and you'll have to stand but it makes for awesome people watching. It's one of the most amazing places in the East Village. All these places are located there since I used to work and go to school nearby. Oh and bakeries! I could go on forever really. But these I just mentioned are a must try. I dream about them sometimes...

She's adorable! Congrats! They'll get used to each other soon and they'll creep into bed with you soon enough. :)
