Black & White & Read All Over* (*Los Angeles)

If you happen to live in the Los Angeles area and found yourself with a copy of Metromix, the free newspaper/website by the folks at the LA Times, you would have been greeted by a giant photo of my head on page six in this week's issue:

I know most of you are assuming that, because I'm so awesome and beautiful and have a large amount of profound and insightful things to say, that Metromix must have tracked me down and begged me to let them put me in their newspaper. I hate to disappoint, but it came about more like in the form of a frantic text last Friday evening from my best friend Alie, who is the Events Editor at Metromix, asking me to answer a couple questions about living in LA that she had just emailed me because they needed it for the new issue which was going to print that weekend. Well, I'm flattered anyway.

Anyway, the quote they used is this:

"Last Saturday was probably the most epic that I've had in the past two years. The afternoon started with a fierce competition in the take-no-prisoners arena of guacamole making, then I headed downtown to take advantage of a friend manning the bar at Bar 107. Three Jameson-on-the-rocks and an innumerable amount of filthy jokes later, we headed to Echo Park to the Gold Room, where I scarfed three free tacos. I believe that I also partook in the $1 tequila shots.

In Los Angeles, no matter where you go or what you're into, you'll never be the coolest or weirdest, prettiest or ugliest, richest or poorest, so you might as well be yourself."

Is this an appropriate time to mention that I've had the dress I'm wearing in that photo since I was 16?

Correction: We totally tracked The Georgia down because she is awesome and beautiful and has a large amount of profound and insightful things to say.

So shut your humble hole. Everyone loves The Georgia, even very superficial weekly newspapers that write stories about chillaxing with comrades.

Pretty sure that the part about being yourself holds true for just about everywhere, not just L.A. It's very good advice, and I will be writing it down to pass on to others as though mine was the brilliant mind which thought it up.

As usual, well said, sister! Funny how we're never at a loss for words, though...

Metromix New York recently put the bar I DJ at in its spotlight. Sadly, I did not get quoted.
